PAPUA COIN
A Global Digital Community Connected to the Future of West Papua
Introducing Papua Coin
Papua Coin is a community-driven digital initiative connected to West Papua.
The project brings together a growing global community interested in the region’s culture, environmental significance, and future.
Through decentralized technologies, Papua Coin explores how digital communities can support global dialogue, cultural awareness, and collaborative initiatives connected to West Papua.
People from around the world participate in the ecosystem by sharing ideas, stories, and creative perspectives that help broaden global awareness of the region.
Why West Papua Matters
West Papua is located on the western half of the island of New Guinea, one of the most ecologically significant regions on Earth. The island contains vast tropical rainforest ecosystems, extraordinary biodiversity, and rich cultural traditions maintained by Indigenous communities for thousands of years.
These forests form part of the third-largest tropical rainforest system in the world, after the Amazon and the Congo Basin. The region is widely recognized by scientists and environmental organizations as one of the most biologically diverse areas on the planet.
Indigenous Papuan communities have long maintained cultural traditions that emphasize stewardship of land, forests, rivers, and coastal ecosystems. These traditions reflect deep connections between cultural identity, environmental balance, and long-term responsibility for the natural world.
At the same time, the region has attracted international attention due to its substantial natural resource deposits, including major reserves of gold, copper, and nickel. These resources have played an important role in global discussions about responsible development, environmental protection, and the role of Indigenous communities in land stewardship.
Today, West Papua’s forests remain among the largest relatively intact tropical forest ecosystems in the world. Scientists increasingly recognize the importance of protecting such ecosystems for biodiversity preservation, climate stability, and the long-term health of the planet.
For these reasons, West Papua holds global significance not only for its natural resources, but also for its cultural heritage, environmental importance, and the communities who have cared for these landscapes for generations.

Green State Vision
The Green State Vision reflects a Melanesian perspective on long-term environmental stewardship, cultural continuity, and responsible approaches to development in West Papua. It emphasizes the importance of protecting natural ecosystems while respecting the cultural traditions and knowledge systems of Indigenous communities who have lived in balance with the land for generations.
Nature, culture, and economy are not separate systems — they form one living whole.
Within this perspective, forests, rivers, and coastal ecosystems are understood not only as natural resources, but also as landscapes connected to culture, identity, and long-term sustainability. Healthy ecosystems and thriving communities are closely interconnected.
Papua Coin draws inspiration from these principles and explores how decentralized digital communities can contribute to global dialogue, cultural awareness, and collaborative initiatives connected to the environmental and cultural significance of West Papua.
Raki Ap
Raki Ap is a Papuan cultural advocate and international speaker who contributes to global discussions on environmental stewardship, cultural identity and sustainable development connected to West Papua.
In 2024, he received the Sustainable Ribbon in the Netherlands recognizing Indigenous perspectives on climate and environmental responsibility. In 2025, he participated as a keynote speaker at the Finance for Biodiversity Summit in Amsterdam.
Raki Ap also contributes to discussions surrounding the Green State Vision, which highlights Indigenous stewardship of rainforest ecosystems.
